She Doesn T Care
"How was the first day, honey?" My mom questioned as I slumped on the couch. "Horrible." I replied absentmindedly. It wasn't the answer mom was looking for as she frowned."What happened?" She asked. "I met my mate." I emotionlessly said."Oh god, h-he rejected you?" She inquired slowly, hesitating. Probably assessing where I stood on the matter."He tried." I scoffed. "What do you mean?" My mom looked at me with eyes as wide as saucers.
"He might have mentioned it." I whispered looking everywhere but at her."Did you accept his rejection?""You have to do that kind of a thing?" I laughed nervously fiddling with my fingers. "Delphi." My mom said in a warning tone. We had this talk before, right when I turned eighteen she pulled me away from the crowd to talk about this, being unsure about myself I had asked her about rejection. Even though she had assured me that rejection was never an option I had urged her to tell me about it.
When a male or female werewolf rejects their mate the other has to accept the rejection or else their wolf is at threat. "Mom, he didn't even want to know me, I know I'm not the ideal mate but he didn't even try to know if I could be." I broke into tears as mom hugged me closely. Insecurity forcing its way through my surface."Baby, he doesn't deserve you. He's stupid to not see how beautiful you are. He is lucky to have you as his mate but he is also immature to have not seen his fortune. Accepting the rejection will at least save your wolf, honey." She was trying to persuade me to think about Lyra who wanted not else but to go back to her mate."I know mom, I just can't let him get away with this. No one deserves this. I want everyone to know that, understand that. He will pay for his wrong doings." I growled wiping my eyes roughly, pushing my insecurity by in it's cage. While I was saying it out loud, it sounded rather childish but I was past caring. "I support you in everything, you know that. Just be careful." I nodded knowingly seeing her reason. He will pay but I won't do anything, he will feel the pain of rejection before I do. And when he does, I will be there to rub more salt on his wounds. You did very wrong, Sylvester. Sleep didn't come easy. Every moment my eyes shut I pictured those icy grey eyes staring back at me, taunting me. They were meant to be eyes that looked at me with love and affection. Not wanting to dwell on him any longer I started counting sheep. At the last count of two hundred forty three sleep took over my senses. The next morning, the face that greeted me did not surprise me. My eyes were swollen and my nose was red as a reindeer. I splashed water on my face, angry at myself for letting him affect me that much. Covering a swollen eye was something I could've mastered in, it's wonderful what a bit of concealer and mascara can do. I refrained from applying concealer on a regular bases but it was required that day. While I tried to give less importance to my appearance, dressing up after a bad day lifted my spirits like nothing else. I matched my plain while shirt that dipped to show a hint cleavage with a navy blue skirt that fell a few inches above my knee. I wore heels, ones I had not touched in years. Heels were only for occasions. I glanced at the mirror once satisfied by the girl staring back at me. I brushed my hand through my hair letting it flow."Mom, I'm leaving now. See you!" I shouted grabbing an apple.Reaching the campus, I spotted Lola immediately but I also saw a couple standing close to each other. Taking a deep breath I pushed the door open, stepping outside.
I gained a couple of wolf whistles which was unusual as I was never the kind to attract the attention of the opposite sex. The attention I was receiving perhaps was influenced by what occurred the day before and that irritated me. I had to cross the young couple leaning against each other, one of whom was my soul mate.
I had gained the attention of my mate but also Merlyn who was leaning against him.Walking towards Lola confidently I ignored their heated stares.
"Wow girl, you clean up well." Caleb said winking at me. "Thanks, can we go. I'm getting late for my first class." I muttered shifting uncomfortably under all the unneeded eyes. "We'll see you later, alligator." Tyler joked, walking away as Caleb flung his hand over my shoulder guiding me to our class together. I subtly shrugged his hand off, they were too quick to take me in and while it could just be their nature to do so, it didn't sit well with me."Are you doing all this for him?" He asked in distaste.
"No, I like it better when I'm confident. " I assured him."Oh, okay. I'm glad. He doesn't deserve your attention anyway. " He added. "I know." I know. The class discussed various things including rouges and pups. Caleb and I had to part ways for our next class. I was walking alone to when Merlyn blocked my path. "Er, Merlyn you are in my way." I informed raising an eyebrow at her.
"I think it's you who is in mine. Stay away from my Sylvester." She sneered, stalking towards me."You can have him, I don't do left overs anyway. Both of you match each other, downright low and disgusting. " I chuckled humourlessly and made a move to walk past her."Don't play with me, Delphi. I play dirty. " She smirked trying to threaten me but seeing my smile she frowned. Really? It would take me forever to find what her problem was. "I don't want to play with you, I don't like middling with dirt." Letting out a battle cry she charged at me with her fist held high.Grabbing her fist I pushed her to the nearby wall.
"Don't make me break those manicured nails, Merlyn. Take this as a warning and stay out of my life." I growled banging her against the wall once more, I turned around hearing her whimper. I calmed my temper. A good punch would've felt perfect but I knew that was more of my wolf speaking than me."Take care of your bitch for me, make her understand somethings are better for her to sit out." I spat at a startled Sylvester as I stomped away. I never liked my violent side but I could not allow people to walk over me. I knew how to fight, and I knew how to do it well. "That was some ass kicking, I think I heard Merlyn started crying. " Perrie said giggling softly. I offered her a small smile and continued my journey to my class. I did not take pleasure in her pain. "But, be careful, Del. Merlyn is someone you shouldn't mess with. Her reputation is everything, and what you did right there, threatened that. When she said she plays dirty, she meant it. She has connections everywhere." Perrie warned."I'll be okay, don't worry."The rest of day passed on fairly slow with a few scared glances towards me every once in a while. I had to stay back and catch up on college work before going home which delayed my arrival. But reaching home, mom handed me a long list of items to get from the grocery store. I got annoyed, yes, but my mom is very good a convincing people. The store was against a dark alley, honestly, it had the eeriest location ever. Parking my car, I stepped out.
The list mom had given me consisted a whole bunch of things, toothpaste to pasta, it had it all."Would you like to donate to the blind?" The cashier asked smiling softly. "Yes, please." I replied. After paying the cashier I gathered all the bags and made my way to the car."Thanks for shopping at Spencers!" She yelled after me. Knowing that any reply wouldn't reach her I kept my words to myself. Balancing the bags in my hand I slowly walked to my car when a hand grabbed my forearms and pulled me to the corner, I let out a sharp scream but it got muffled as a hand clasped over my mouth."What is a lovely girl like you doing all alone?" A dark voice asked dragging me to a dark corner.
Letting my hands drop the bags I elbowed the guy in the stomach making him scream. Before I could end his case two more guys came and held me back. Humans. Did they have no instincts?"What do you want? " I asked squinting in the dim lighting trying to recognise the covered face.
"Looking for some fun." He said shrugging, he did not sound convincing. But not wanting to stick around to see what fun he was talking about I kicked the guy to my right making him momentarily lose him grip on my arm. I punched the guy to my left, effectively knocking him out.The guy on my right began to gain his balance when the guy in the front punched me in the stomach.
The adrenaline pumping in my veins made me push the pain away and wipe the blood off my lips.Bringing my leg up to his groin, I punched his face he fell on the concrete.
A fist landed on my cheek making my lip crack.Letting out a howl I twisted the guy's hand, breaking it.
"Please, I didn't want to do this. " He pleaded struggling to get out of my hold."Yeah, sure." "Please. She forced us." He choked out."Who?"*********
