She Doesn T Care

"Hello, I'm Delphi. Sophia told me I could start working today?"

"Sure, you can. I'm Vince, by the way." I simply nodded. Vince had dark hair that drew out his features. His eyes held a familiarity I could not place and his expression held a warmth that made me restless.

"Here, take these and wait in aisle three. I'll be with you in a minute." He said, handing me a loose shirt reading the library's name and ID.

It wasn't hard to locate the aisle as it had a big '3' written on it. I started familiarising with the books seeing which ones I had read and which I haven't.

The aisle had books consisting of autobiographies and a shelf of fiction. My love for literature had been my only reason of survival. I would read all books, take inspiration from them and try to learn from each.

The best kind of learnings come from autobiographies of the ordinary. I wasn't surprised to have read most of the books sitting on the shelves there and even having the honour of owning a couple of them.

I was flipping through the pages of my favourite autobiography, tracing the small letters with my fingers while balancing the book on my other hand.

My hand had been healing quite well, seeing as it should be out of the plaster in another day. My concepts of self harm were long gone, it was time to be the responsible child my parents deserved.

I had made up my mind, as soon as I would go home, I would sit them down and have a talk. It wasn't only I who was suffering due to our loss, Ethan was their son.

"Delphi?" I heard someone call my name.

"In here!" I replied walking to the edge of the aisle.

"So, the job doesn't consist of much, to be honest. All you have to do is know your way around the library and when a customer requests to see a book or asks your favourite- you have to give a few pointers and convince them to buy the book."

I nodded my head doing a happy dance in my head at the joy that would come with a day spent surrounded with books.

"Even though the issuing section is not your job I'll tell you a little about it. A person can't issue a book without a library card of this library and they are allowed to keep the book for three weeks at a maximum." Vince ended, looking at me intently probably contemplating my understanding capacity.

"I got it, thanks!" I smiled at him. He gave me one more look then turned to leave but stopped.

"Oh, and anyone can stay in the library for however long they wish. No restrictions in the land of books." He winked at me.

"It's a twenty-four hours library?" I squeaked.

"You didn't know? Though, your shift is in the afternoon and evening, right?" He frowned seeing my unawareness. I should have looked into this before taking the job.

"Well, I am new." I said with a small shrug to which he gave a laugh.
"Yeah, so if you need anything, I'll be at the counter."

The rest of the day had been uneventful, I've got to say, the library stayed very deserted through out my shift with only a few on goers coming in for a look.

I drove back to the small cottage I'd taken shelter in for a few days, it wasn't much but had the basic necessities which was al I required for the time being.

I put my purse on a small table in the corner and sat on a make shift bed looking outside the small window.
The chirping of the birds brought a sense of peace to my heart. I could feel myself heeling, both inside and out.

The location of the cottage was camouflaged with the trees guarding it's corners. I believe it was once home to a small farmer but then was abandoned due to the partition of the pack and this land was made neutral territory.

When Lola suggested this place, I jumped at the opportunity. It would be impossible to find me in the woods in a battered up cottage.

A knock sounded on the door alerting me, seemed like I had spoken too soon.

I picked up a knife and stalked towards the door which was a feet away from the bed.

Before opening the door I held the knife tighter and picked up my non injured hand in an attack position.
Pulling the door open I recognised the familiar face.

"Caleb?" I breathed out looking at him, confused. I put my hand down when he eyed my knife in confusion.

"Hi, I heard Lola telling me you took to staying here for a while, I came to check up on you." He smiled warmly at me and came inside.

"That's really sweet, thank you, Caleb."
His eyes widened seeing the white plaster around my hand.

"What is that?" He pointed at my hand and looked at me, his eyes hardening.

"I-I fell." I stammered suddenly finding the irregularity of the floor of the under development house interesting.

"An intriguing fall, how did you manage it?" I could hear the sarcasm in his voice.

"Stairs, I tripped down the stairs." I lied, looking into his eyes this time.

"You fell down the stairs, a werewolf, fell downstairs and broke there hand." He scoffed
"You know you can talk to me, right?" I knew I could but I was trying to put it behind me and focus on the future.

"I know. I'm not in the place to, I'm sorry." I shook my head, feeling guilty to turn down his offers to share my pain.

"Hey, you don't have to apologise for anything. You have all the rights to be however you want, Delphi. Don't let anyone tell you different." I couldn't stop myself and pulled him into a side-hug, a friendly hug.

"Thank you so much. For being here, for being supportive, for everything." He put his hands around me.

"No problem, Delphi. We all are here for you." I was so touched at how some people I knew for only a couple of days cared so much for me.

We separated and I motioned for him to sit down.

"So, what's going on with you?" I questioned him wanting to know more about my new friend.

"Nothing much. I just-" He got cut off by a loud knock.

I looked at him confused, he just shrugged.

I grabbed the knife again as Caleb came to assist me.

"Is that really necessary?" Caleb raised his eyebrow at my stance.

"Yes and tell me was Lola planning to pay me a visit?" I whispered to him motioning for him to open the door.

"No, just me."

Before the door completely opened, I knew who it was.

"Sylvester." I whispered staring dead at an angry Alpha, his grey eyes swarming like the dark sea.

He looked between Caleb and I, his face twisting in rage.
"It's not like that." I found myself explaining, a gesture I thought I'd never show to the likes of him.

"It isn't?" Sylvester spoke looking directly in my eyes accusing me of betraying him.

"Don't look at me like that." I stated, standing upright.
"How did you find me?" I inquired instead, I was looking forward to what his methods were.

"Why is he here?" I could see he was dodging my question.
"How did you find me?" I inquired again with more assertiveness this time.

"I'll take my leave, Delphi. I'll see you tomorrow, okay?" I didn't want Caleb to go but I knew it wasn't fair to drag him into this.

I gave him a short hug, ignoring the growl coming from the Alpha beside me.

"Take care." He whispered in my ear and made his way out.

"Alpha Caleb. We seem to have this conversation in circles. I need to ask you to stay away from my mate." Sylvester spoke stopping Caleb in his way out.

"Alpha Sylvester. I need to ask you to stay the hell out of Delphi's life." The two Alpha's stood chest to chest against each other, in any other occasion I'd find it hilarious to see these two grown men standing unbelievably close to each other, but here I knew me laughing wouldn't be quite appreciated.

"Okay now, boys." I standing stepping between them. "Let's not do this, Sylvester."

"Do what? I can't ask him to keep his hands off what is mine?" He spoke standing close to me, I knew what he was trying to do. But his tone and words were seriously ticking me off.

"First off, it isn't any of your concern who's hands are where. And secondly, we weren't doing anything." I added the second part to calm the storm in his eyes.

"You are covered in his scent." He breathed out looking at me, challenging me to explain that.

"Alpha Sylvester, I was being someone she can depend on, someone she can trust. I'm sure you know nothing of how that is done." His words held some truth but they hardly were true, the entire pack looked up to and depended on Sylvester. No one could deny that. I knew Caleb's words wounded Sylvester deeply but before I could say something to soothe the tension Caleb spoke again.

"And to calm your nerves, I see Delphi as a friend. I have a mate to call my own and unlike some people, I know how to treat my other half." I squeaked in excitement hearing the news of Caleb finding his mate.

"Oh my god! You found her?" My grin could split my face into half as I moved my hands to exaggerate the situation.

"Yes, a few days ago. I was about to tell you but I was interrupted." He looked pointedly at Sylvester but I didn't bother turning as I held him by his shoulders. I could see his words were soft, he was checking if I was okay with it.

"That is great!" I exclaimed as I let him go. "When do I get to meet her?"

"Soon. Take care, Delphi." He smiled at me making me return the gesture.

"Alpha, be careful. She is someone we care a lot about, if anything happens to her, you have a tornado coming at you." Sylvester had been quiet all this while so I wasn't surprised to see Caleb's threat unanswered.

As Caleb left I turned to the elephant in the room.

"Why are you here and how did you find me?" My stone cold voice was a contrast to how I spoke a few minutes ago. The situation being the same.

"Can we talk?"

And so we did.

Wow, okay. I'm back! Comments, feedbacks welcomed!

Also, I was thinking about making next chappie in Sylvester's POV. What do you all think?

Hope it was up to the mark.
Love,
Rojesta 💜
